This month I have continued using the artistic behaviors in developing my concentration. I worked on a piece that consisted of two different types of branches of flowers, and made them overlap. I created original art in doing this because I took the reference photo myself, and added my own details to the painting. I took risks because I did not sketch out the flowers before I began painting. I am beginning to see a lot more confidence in my pieces, which I feel I was lacking at the beginning of the year. I am communicating through my artwork as I am trying to highlight the delicacy of things in nature. I am now working on a piece where I will paint a dandelion to add to this theme. I have experienced challenges because sometimes I do not know what my next piece should be, and sometimes I abandon my work. However, I continue to problem solve and plan to go back to my art that I have left aside.

This month in AP art I have continued working towards my concentration. I have thought of different ideas that I want to have as my statement, and I decided I want to focus on something revolving around nature. The piece I have been working on this month is a reflection of that topic. In the creation of the butterfly I created original art because I used a picture I took myself as a reference. I also had to solve problems because it was difficult for me to to draw the outline of the butterfly over the background. I had to use white paint to trace the outline. I also had to fix the shape of the wings and the body a few times, and I had to redo the background several times to get the right texture that I was going for. I collaborated in my art work by asking other student's opinions on this piece, and I obtained feedback on what I should change. Next month I hope to have a more precise concentration statement so I can really focus on creating pieces that belong in my concentration. This month in art class I continued to work on my breadth pieces, but also to focus in on my concentration. I worked on a painting of my dog, and it took a few weeks to get the detail down that I was hoping for. This is a potential piece that could be used for my concentration because my dog represents a great part of my family, and he brings us a lot of joy. For my concentration i want to focus on aspects of my family. In making this piece, I created original art by going off of a picture I took of Toby and created a painting of him. I also am currently working on a painting of a cardinal. I developed skills when creating the background, and I took risks by using my paintbrush in a different style to create the background. I also had to solve problems when painting the bird, I placed the tail at the wrong angle and had to solve the problem. I struggled with deciding what art work to create, so I have been working on getting my ideas quicker so I can create more artwork in a shorter amount of time. This month in art class I have been continuing the search for my concentration. I created more breadth pieces while performing the artistic behaviors. I created sketches in my sketchbook, and I sketched a self portrait using a reference image of myself. I also worked very hard in creating a painting of a flower vase, I used the flowers we have in class as a reference. I took risks by creating a new style of painting where I did not blend the paints and used different color values to create a side profile. I created original art by only using images I took as a reference for my artwork, this also helped me develop skill because I am beginning to feel more confident and comfortable with a paint brush. I also collaborated with others by asking the class for opinions on my artwork and giving my opinions to classmates about what they could maybe add to their artwork. Recently in AP art we have kind of taken a step back and focused on blind contour. I created many different variations of blind contour of faces, hands, and other objects like shoes and a dog. This helped me to not be so precise, which is something I struggle with in creating artwork. Blind contour is a perfect way to create original art. It also forced me to take risks, I have never created a full piece that is based off of not looking down at my canvas. Although in AP we are not focusing on developing skills, blind contour did help develop skills. Along with the blind contour I created a charcoal self portrait which was really my first time working with charcoal. During this project I had to do a lot of problem solving. I had to erase the charcoal many times to get the right features of my face. I then took that charcoal piece and created a painting in the same black and white style. I feel that this month I have really been focused on creating pieces and sticking with them. I also created the chair piece, which helped me focus on the negative space. |
